Homemade buttermilk
Lets face it when a recipe calls for just one cup of buttermilk I don't want to drive all the way to the grocery store for a whole carton of buttermilk nor have it go to waste in my fridge. For that reason we are going to make our own guys! Use this buttermilk for your baked goods, pancakes, fried chicken, dressings....sky's the limit peopleeee. I personally love using evaporated milk instead of regular milk in my baked goods and this recipe works with evaporated milk as well if you want to add a twist to your buttermilk. Want to make it VEGAN? just use coconut milk instead with the same recipe!
Ingredients
1 cup milk (I like to use evaporated milk)
juice of 1 lemon OR 1 1/2 tbsp of white vinegar
Add your lemon juice or vinegar to your milk, gently stir and let sit for about 5 min. You'll notice the milk starting the curdle, giving you that buttermilk consistency and texture.
